The Member for Wentworth, Dave Sharma, has welcomed the Federal Government’s commitment of $7.5 million to support the redevelopment of White City into a sports and community facility.
The funding, awarded under the Community Development Grants Programme, will leverage some $45 million in private contributions to bring the project to fruition.
“The new facilities at White City will create an enduring community and recreational asset,” said Mr Sharma.
“These new facilities will address a critical shortage of sporting infrastructure in the eastern suburbs. They will be open and accessible to all, including school and sporting groups and local residents, and promote healthyand active lives.”
“For too long, the site at White City has sat dormant and unused, a remnant of its former glory. Once revitalised, it will be transformed into the community gathering and meeting place it was in the past.”
The new development will include multi-use courts for basketball, netball and futsal, a heated 25-metre pool, a football field, nine tennis courts, and a new club building.
Mr Sharma said he had worked closely with the Hakoah Club to ensure the new facility would be open and accessible to all and he had received assurances that the Paddington Greenway project could accommodate the plans.
